Canada’s best restroom—is it located at YVR?

At YVR, travellers find clean, modern washrooms in which to freshen up during their journeys. The washroom walls in C-Pier of the Domestic Terminal are covered in shades of blue, red, and yellow mosaic tiles. Wave-shaped blue flooring winds down the curved corridor, leading guests to their choice of bathroom stalls.

Over the years, Vancouver International Airport has won numerous awards including top billing as the #1 Airport in North America for five consecutive years. The latest nomination, however, may so far be the most unique—competing for the title of Canada’s Best Restroom.

Created in 2010, the Cintas Canada Best Restroom Award is open to any non-residential restroom in Canada that is accessible to the general public. Entries are judged on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements.

“This contest is fun, but it also conveys a critical message that restroom hygiene matters—for good health and good business,” said Leslie Molin, Cintas’ senior marketing manager.

Each year, Canada’s most noteworthy “places to go” are identified and then voted on by the Internet public in the battle of the bowls. This year’s five finalists hail from Ontario (three), Calgary (one) and B.C (one)—a washroom located in C-Pier, Domestic Terminal of YVR.

The winner of the 5th annual Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom Contest will be revealed during a nationally publicized media event this fall, where the winner will be awarded $2,500 in Cintas facility services.

Headquartered in Ontario, Cintas designs, manufactures and implements corporate identity uniform programs and provides restroom cleaning and supplies to approximately 55,000 businesses in Canada.

From now until October, the public is invited to take a photographic tour of each facility and choose its favourite washroom by online ballot at bestrestroom.com/canada.
