Give them Wings: Indigenous Youth Taking Flight
Boundary Bay Airport, Delta, BC
9:30am to 1:30pm. The Indigenous LIFT Collective, with leadership from Teara Fraser, has launched the “Give them Wings” initiative to introduce Indigenous youth to aviation. The aviation and aerospace industry is facing critical and growing human resources shortages in almost all areas: pilots, AMEs, machinists, airport operations, marketing, office support. Increasing the number of Indigenous peoples and women/girls in the industry is part of the solution, especially in remote communities. Indigenous youth will have the opportunity to explore the wonder of flighty—gathering information, checking out aircraft, meeting Indigenous pilots, trying out a simulator and maybe even take a discovery flight. Fraser is a past executive director of the BC Aviation Council, an active member of the Council’s Board and the founder of Iskwew Air. For more information, visit givethemwings.ca.
