Government calls for civil aviation internship applications

February 23, 2013, marked Canada’s fifth annual National Aviation Day. To mark the occasion, the Government of Canada announced the call for applications for the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) – Transport Canada Civil Aviation Internship Program.

February 23 was first designated National Aviation Day in Canada in 2009 to celebrate Canada’s rich aviation heritage, highlight the continued success of the aviation industry worldwide and recognize the Government of Canada’s important role in aviation for all Canadians.

Once again this year, Transport Canada issued the call for applications to the new Civil Aviation Internship Program. The program is a unique chance to learn first-hand about civil aviation and gain valuable work experience.

The internship program is a paid, two-month summer work term at Transport Canada headquarters in Ottawa. It is open to students currently enrolled in grades 11 and 12, Secondary V or the first year of CEGEP.

Interested students must complete the FSWEP application online by April 5, 2013.

Following this date, selected students will be contacted and asked to submit a 500-word essay as part of the evaluation process. Applicants must be fluent in either English or French, and be prepared to submit a letter of reference from a teacher and a parental consent form. The two successful interns will be notified by June 14, 2013.
