Seven ways YVR is going ‘Beyond Accessibility’

Providing an accessible airport for everyone is one of YVR’s top priorities, and during National AccessAbility Week 2023, YVR launched a new three-year Accessibility Plan, Beyond Accessibility.

This comprehensive plan provides a framework for YVR to continue and improve its long-standing efforts to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible travel experience for people of all abilities. Designed to meet and exceed compliance with the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), Beyond Accessibility was co-developed with input from YVR’s community partners.

The plan follows the seven focus areas of the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDR), outlining achievements, public consultation feedback, and areas for improvement. The latter includes continued enhancement of terminal facilities, communications technology, support programs, work environment and procurement practices.

As outlined in the new Accessibility Plan, YVR continues to work with many community partners on various new and innovative accessibility services and solutions. These include creating more sensory-friendly and quieter spaces throughout the airport, upgrading existing self-service bag drops in the Domestic Terminal, and exploring opportunities for guests with accessibility considerations to familiarize themselves with the airport in advance by touring YVR via its Digital Twin platform.

Beyond Accessibility builds on YVR’s commitment to providing optimum travel experiences and continues to lead in delivering an inclusive and accessible airport experience for people of all abilities.
