This summer, WestJet became the second airline to join Vancouver International Airport’s (YVR) biometrics program, making it even easier for eligible passengers travelling to the U.S. to move through the airport.
WestJet passengers travelling to the United States can now use biometric identity verification at boarding gates. Instead of presenting a passport or boarding pass, passengers simply look at the camera at the eGate, where facial comparison technology securely verifies their identity in seconds.
Early results have shown that biometric identity verification can make the boarding process up to 12 percent faster than manual document checks, helping to improve the experience for both passengers and airline partners.
YVR was the first airport in Canada to introduce biometric boarding and continues to work closely with airlines, government, and technology partners to responsibly introduce new technologies that improve the passenger journey while maintaining strong privacy and security standards.
