Lufthansa begins non-stop Munich to Vancouver route

Vancouver Airport Authority recently reached another milestone in its longstanding relationship with Lufthansa, as the airline’s inaugural flight from Munich touched down on May 16, 2013 at YVR amidst great fanfare.

This new non-stop flight arrives and departs daily using an Airbus A330-300 and lets travellers fly non-stop to the historic and picturesq ue German city.

A primary hub connecting more than 285 destinations, Munich is one of Vancouver’s top 10 European markets for passengers departing and arriving from YVR.

It is estimated that the Vancouver-Munich route will create 131 new jobs and will contribute $8.7-million dollars to B.C.’s GDP during its initial six-month daily service, while also bringing nearly 15,000 visitors to B.C.

The new service will also provide opportunities for local businesses and organizations to directly reach customers, suppliers and investors in Europe.

The new Vancouver-Munich route marks Lufthansa’s 30 years of service to YVR and bolsters YVR’s trans-Atlantic offerings for travellers and businesses.

During the summer peak period, YVR’s current European services operate at more than 90 per cent passenger capacity.
